EXPERIMENT NO. -1
AIM:- To find the diameter of a given Pencil using Vernier Callipers.
APPARATUS:- Vernier Calliper, a Pencil
Theory:-
A Vernier Callipers is a measuring instrument used to determine the internal and external diameters, lengths, and depths of objects with high precision.
Least Count of a Vernier:
The least distance which can be measured accurately by a Vernier calliper
L.C. = value of Smallest division on Main Scale÷ Total divisions on Vernier Scale
L.C. = 1 mm ÷10= 0.1 mm= 0.01 cm
Measuring Diameter:
Diameter= Main Scale Reading + Vernier Scale Division coinciding x L.C
PROCEDURE:
1. Count the total number of division n on the Vemier scale. Find the value of one main scale división x. Calculate the least count of the Vernier using the following formula
LC= x÷ n
2.Check the zero error by bringing the jaws in contact.
3.Note the main scale reading(MSR), le, the reading that comes just before the zero of the vernier zero.
4.Note down the division of the Vernier coinciding with any division of main scale.
5.Add the Vernier scale reading to the main scale reading to get the total reading
6.Repeat the experiment two more times
Observations:-
Total number of divisions on the Vernier scale n = ____
Value of one main scale division x= ___ cm
Least count of the Vernier scale x/n =____ cm
Zero error (if any) =___ cm.
