Screw Gauge Experiment
Aim:
To measure the diameter of a small sphere using a screw gauge.
Apparatus:
Screw gauge, small sphere, and notebook.
Theory:
A screw gauge is a precision instrument used to measure small lengths.
Formula:
Least Count (L.C.) = Pitch / Number of Divisions on Circular Scale
Procedure:
- Determine the least count.
- Check for zero error.
- Place the sphere and tighten gently.
- Note the main and circular scale readings.
- Calculate using Total Reading = MSR + (CSR × L.C.)
Diagram:

Result:
The average diameter of the sphere is determined.
