Thrust: The total force applied perpendicularly on a surface is called thrust.
Pressure: Pressure is the force acting per unit area. It tells how much force is applied on a small surface.
Formula: Pressure = Thrust / Area
Units:
- SI unit of pressure: pascal (Pa) [1 pascal = 1 newton / 1 m²]
- CGS unit of pressure: dyne/cm²
Relation between units:
- 1 pascal = 10 dyne/cm²
Factors affecting pressure:
- Increase in thrust increases pressure.
- Increase in area decreases pressure.
