Propagation of Sound – Diagram Based MCQs

Propagation of Sound in Air (Diagram Based)

Short Description of the Diagram

The diagram shows a vibrating metal strip producing sound in air. When the strip moves forward, nearby air layers are compressed forming compressions. When it moves backward, air layers spread apart forming rarefactions. These alternate compressions and rarefactions travel forward through air. The air particles only vibrate about their mean positions and do not move along with the sound wave.
