 Reflection of light

The sense of sight is one of the most important senses.  Our eyes can see an obJect  in light not in dark. Eyes alone cannot see any object ,it is seen only when light from an object enters our eyes then we see the object. It may be  reflection of light by the object.

Rainbow mind map

Light is reflected from all surfaces.

Regular reflection takes place when light is incident on a smooth polished and regular surface whereas irregular reflection takes place from rough surfaces.

Regular and Irregular reflection

There are two laws of reflection :-

1 the angle of incidence is equal to angle of reflection

2. incident ray reflected ray and normal drawn at the point of incidence to the reflecting surface lie on the same plane

Images formed in plane mirror and curved Mirrors are  because of reflection of light

Two Mirrors inclined to each other give rise to multiple images because of multiple reflection

Beautiful patterns are formed in  Kaleidoscope because of multiple reflection.

Nature of images formed by - i) plane mirror:- Erect , virtual , same size , same distance from mirror and laterally inverted

ii) concave mirror :- nature of image depends upon position of an object. It forms both types of images real - inverted / erect- virtual

iii) convex image always forms erect- virtual and  small images.

Curved Mirrors

♤ To identify types of Mirrors:-
Bring Mirrors one by one close to your face –
1. If image of your face is bigger in size, concave mirror
2. If image of your face small in size, convex mirror
3. If image of your face is of same size , plane mirror

 ♤ Uses of Mirrors:-
1. Plane mirror is  used as dressing mirror
2. Plane mirror is used in solar cooker, periscope, kaleidoscope etc
3. Concave mirror is used as a shaving mirror, makeup mirror
4. Concave mirror is used by dentists
5. Convex mirror is used as rear view mirror
6. Convex mirror is used as vigilance mirror

 ♤ Multiple Images:-
If two Mirrors are placed inclined to each other at an angle, multiple images will be formed.

Multiple Images

Angle between two mirrors 90 degree , number of images 3.
