5. The process of fertilization  involves the fusion of male and female reproductive cells or gametes

D. Write for True statements or for False statements.

1. Flowers pollinated by wind are small in size.  T

2. In a typical flower, receptacle bears the four consecutive whorls of a flower T

3. Sepals enclose the reproductive parts of the flower.F

4. Ovary is the swollen part of the carpel and is present at its base.T

5. Self pollination occurs in a single flower. T

E. Match the columns.

Subjective Type Questions

A. Answer the questions in short.
1. Which part  of a plant is most important for sexual reproduction?
Answer-  Flower of a plant is most important for sexual reproduction.

 2. What is the main function of flowers?
Answer- The main function of a plant to produce  fruits and seeds

 3. What do we call the part of the stem where the whorls of a flower are arranged?
Answer - The part of the stem where the whorls of a flower are arranged is called
  receptacle.

4 . How many whorls are commonly found in a flower? Name them.
Answer- There are four whorls of a flower.
They are -I calyx 2 corolla 3. Androecium 4.Gynoecium

5. Name the male and the female parts of the flower.
Answer- Male part of a flower- stamen
Female part of a flower- Pistil

 6. What is the function of calyx ?
Answer- The function of Calyx is to protect flower in initial stage.

7. Where are the pollens found?
Answer - The pollens are found on  anther

8. Why is stigma sticky in nature?
Answer- stigma sticky in nature so that pollens can be stick on it.

 9. Define pollination. What are the types of pollination?
Answer- Pollination- The transfer of pollen grains from the anther of a stamen to the stigma of a pistil.
There are two types of pollination- 1. Self pollination. 2. Cross pollination.

10. Give two examples each of insect-pollinated, wind-pollinated and water- pollinated flowers.
Answer- Two examples  of each -
1. insect-pollinated flowers - sunflower and marigold
2. wind-pollinated flowers-  sugarcane and rice
3. water- pollinated flowers - vallisneria and Hydrilla

B. Answer the questions in detail.

1. Name the part of the flower where pollen grains are stored. What is the role of pollen grains in plant reproduction?
Answer- Anther of the flower where pollen grains are stored. The pollen grains contain male sex cells male (gametes) of a plant

2. Describe the structure of a pistil. Support your answer with a diagram.
Answer- In the centre of a flower, there is a flask-shaped organ called pistil or carpel. The pistil is the female part of a flower. A pistil is made up of three parts: Stigma ,Style and ovary
1. Stigma - The top part of a pistil is called stigma. Stigma is very sticky so that pollens can stick to it.
2.Style - The middle part of a pistil is called style. It is a tube which connects stigma to
3. Ovary - The swollen part at the bottom of the pistil is called ovary. The ovary contains tiny, egg-like structures called ovules. The ovules contain female sex cells .
The pistils together make up the gynoecium of the flower.

3. What is the difference between unisexual and bisexual flowers?
Answer- Unisexual flower- The flower which contains only one reproductive organ either male or female are called unisexual flower Bisexual flower- The flower which contains both the reproductive organs male as well as female are called by bisexual flower

4. How does cross-pollination happen?
Answer-' when the pollen grains from the anther of a flower on one plant are transferred to the stigma of a flower on another plant of the same species, it is called cross pollination. in cross  pollination two plants are involved.  Cross pollination can be observed in trees like apple , Maple

5. Classify various pollinating agents with the help of suitable examples.
Answer-Pollination is the transfer of pollen grains from the anther to stigma. Agents that help in pollination are called pollinating agents. Water, wind, insects are  pollinating agents
