Activity on curved mirrors

Activity Based Teaching - Fun with spherical mirrors

Essence: To

1.  Know Concave and convex  part of a spoon.

2. Identify Concave and Convex mirror.

3. Capture real image on screen.

4. Find final length of a Concave mirror.

Engage: 1. Observing image's by the spoon , inner side and outer side

2. Looking at curved mirrors labelled A and B

Explore: Experimenting to get answers of following questions in a worksheet.

Question 1. Which type of image formed when face is brought close to inward side of shinning spoon and outward side of shinning spoon?

Question 2: If spoon  is taken away from a face, any change in nature and size of a image ?

Question 3: Identify mirror A and B as concave and convex mirror.

Question 4: Is it possible to capture images formed by concave and convex mirror on the

screens?

Question 5 : What is the Focal length of a given  concave mirror,?

Explain:

1. Inward reflecting surface of a spherical mirror is concave mirror. It forms real as well as virtual images and different sizes images

2. Outer reflecting surface of a spherical mirror is convex mirror. It always forms virtual and small images.

2. Real image can be taken on the screen but not virtual.

Elaborate:

1. Spherical mirror used as shaving mirror is __________mirror because it gives ________ and

__________ image when face is closed to the mirror.

2. _________ mirror is used as rear view mirror as it gives __________ and __________ image so

carries large field view.

Evaluate:

1. To check observing skill

2. To check listening skill

3. To check presentation skill- worksheet work

Experience:-  Students learn:

1. about spherical mirrors

2. about Real and Virtual images

3. method to find Focal length of a Concave mirror
